We have awarded a $5,000 Buddy's Grant to SAFE Broome to help support their specialist training sessions and provide new flight safe transportable crates.
For nearly 20 years SAFE Broome has been saving animals from euthanasia with a mission to protect unwanted, abused and homeless pets from unnecessary death and find them loving responsible pet owners. They are a foster based organisation predominantly rescuing dogs and puppies from the Shire of Broome animal shelter.
Once these dogs and puppies are in care SAFE focus on basic training and behavioural rehabilitation. They engage a specialist trainer through a local company Paws & Effect to help equip their foster carers (and some adoptive parents) to support dogs that display behavioural issues and require some extra training and attention before they can be adopted into a loving long-term home.
Despite receiving wonderful community support, SAFE are finding it increasingly difficult to find homes in Broome for all the dogs they take into care and actively look for opportunities further afield where dogs can be relocated to major cities. This is a very expensive option from Broome as a remote destination and freight costs are very high.
This grant will allow SAFE Broome to have a positive outcome for dogs in their region by
-
Delivering 20 training sessions to educate and upskill foster carers and adoptive parents
-
4 large flight safe travel crates to be reduce travel costs and improve efficiency
-
250 "Adopt Me" bandanas for upcoming adoption events
We love seeing our rescue partners come up with creative ways to find positive outcomes for dogs in their care with limited resources and we're proud to be able to support them in this way.
