We help lost, unwanted and surrendered dogs throughout Tasmania. Dogs’ Homes of Tasmania has been here for dogs for more than 70 years. We re-unite lost dogs with their families, find new homes for unwanted dogs, and provide care and medical treatment to all dogs in need. Our vision is that every dog in Tasmania has a safe and caring home. We are committed to the care and rehoming of all stray, abandoned, lost, and unwanted dogs, while offering them a brighter future through welfare advocacy, community education, and support. Each year, we care for approximately 3,000 lost, abandoned, and surrendered dogs through the operations of our four Homes across Tasmania: Launceston, Burnie, Devonport, and Hobart. Every dog rehomed is temperament tested, given a full health check, desexed, vaccinated, and microchipped before being offered for adoption. There is no time limit at our Homes, and we will care for each dog for as long as it takes to find them the right home. We are committed to “Getting to Zero,” which means that no healthy, temperamentally sound dog will ever be euthanised. We NEVER turn away a dog in need and will do everything we can to ensure each dog receives the medical attention, love, support, and care they need before finding a new forever home. This is a promise we make to our dogs and to you as a friend and supporter. We couldn’t do this work without the generosity of people like you.
Adoption Policy: Strict
If you’re interested in adopting one of these dogs, please make an appointment to visit the Home. Dogs are being adopted throughout the day, and while we try and update our channels as soon as a dog is adopted, we cannot guarantee that any particular dog will still be there when you visit. We only take visitors by appointment. This helps us to limit the amount of people in the adoption area, reducing stress on the dogs. Bookings can only be made on the day and for two days ahead.
