Sydney Dingo Rescue is a volunteer run animal shelter and registered charity based two hours from Sydney on 100 acres. We are Australia's largest dingo rescue. Sydney Dingo Rescue exists to assist both wild-born dingoes and captive/pet dingoes who have found themselves homeless and in need of help. We work not only in New South Wales but across Australia working in conjunction with councils and shelters interstate in Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and the Northern Territory to help dingoes in need. What we do: First and foremost Sydney Dingo Rescue exists to offer support and assistance to dingo owners and carers. Whether this is training/behavioral advice, help with fencing or subsidized desexing it is always our goal to keep families together with their dingoes where ever possible. Where this is not possible, we also run a rehoming program to find suitable new homes for dingoes in need. As well as working to assist captive born dingoes (pets/companion animals), Sydney Dingo Rescue also exists to advocate for, and assist wild-born dingoes who are unfairly targeted, and killed by the Australian Government. Each year due to wide spread baiting, trapping and hunting hundreds if not thousands of wild dingo pups are left orphaned and in need of assistance. These pups are often left to starve. We believe dingoes deserve better and SDR are here to do everything within our power to fight for them. In addition to the pressures faced by wild dingoes, the prolific and uncontrolled breeding of dingoes by backyard breeders has led to a huge number of homeless dingoes, surrendered to shelters and pounds each year. Sydney Dingo Rescue does not support the breeding of dingoes in captivity and all our rescue dingoes are desexed. We work with council impound centers and private shelters across Australia to assist dingoes in need.
Adoption Policy: Strict
1. You fill out an adoption questionnaire/application and send some photos of your yard/fencing. This way we can get to know a bit more about you and your family/pets and this way we can try and suggest some possible matches for rescue dingoes that might be suitable for you to adopt. 2. You meet the dingoes! Once we have your application we can organise to bring some dingoes to meet you or you can come to our rescue centre to meet some dingoes. We are based in the central tablelands area in NSW near Tarago, but we travel all over NSW, VIC and the ACT and we're happy to come to you (this also means we can check your yard/fencing is secure*). 3. You start a two week adoption trial Before confirming any adoption we always offer a 2 week trial period to make sure your new dingo is a good match for you, and you are a good match for them. 4. Your adoption is confirmed and the dingo is transferred into your name At the end of the two week trial your dingoes microchip is changed into your name, you will need to register them with your local council. All dingoes come to their new homes desexed, microchipped and vaccinated. *Something to keep in mind when having a look over the information are the fencing requirements. Every dingo is different, but good fencing and a backyard is a strict requirement for our rescue. Many dingoes will require 6 to 7-foot fences (1.8m-2.2m).
